Have You Ever Said, “I Just Can't Seem To Get Any Leads?”

I want to talk about a mistake that a lot of businesses make, especially local businesses,

and that is thinking that they can sell to everyone. You would assume that since you are targeting more people, naturally you're gonna get more leads.

buuuuuuuuttttt…

When you try to sell to everyone, you often end up selling to no one.

It isn't your fault why you think that way. Think about it every kind of marketing you see whether it be a commercial, billboard, or ad, it's directed to pretty much everybody. You have companies like Nike, Coca Cola and other big name companies, whose target audience is almost everyone. The thing is these companies have hundreds of millions of dollars they can just throw into their marketing budget. I don't know about you but if you're like me you don't have hundreds of millions of dollars for a marketing budget. Marketing should be solely based on getting you results.

Why You Just Throw Leads Away And Not Even Realize.

Imagine you worked so hard on putting together an ad, I mean you worked on that ad for hours and hours. You figured out the best headline, the best sales pitch, and everything, it was perfect. It was the best ad ever created in the history of ads. Only to run the ad and get ZERO leads.

The problem was you tried to make everyone your customer. Some people just don't want to be your customer. Some people just dont need what you're selling.

That is like putting a hot dog cart in the parking lot of an all you can eat restaurant, and wondering why no one wants to buy a hot dog.

You can't sell food to people who are full.

How Can You Say, “I Got So Many Leads.”

You need to talk to the right people. People that want to buy your product. There is always customer bias. If you know who your audience is, whether they have kids or not, what their income is, what kind of hobbies they have. All this stuff becomes clear overtime as you start to get to know your customers.

The easiest thing you can do to start understanding certain audiences is to get an idea of how they communicate with each other, what kind of things they say. The best way to do that is to check your clients' reviews.

Let's say your client remodels kitchens. Go to their website or socials, check the reviews. This will give you a better idea of who they sell to, and who is more likely to get their kitchen remodeled. Are they married, are they students, are they retired. These are some of the things you need to know before you try to just sell your service to everyone.

The ideal situation is for the customer to see the ad and think "Ahh this is for me.” “This man understands, he gets me.” You do that by actually understanding where they are coming from. And you do that by doing some basic background research.

You need to understand that there is ZERO product that sells to everyone.

Whether you think so or not, there is always going to be a customer bias. You need your message to cut through the clutter, and get to the people who are more likely to respond to your ad.
